A Long Awaited Picture Parade

Okay!  I’ve only been putting this off since November.  That’s not too bad, right?

Let’s get straight to the pottery porn, shall we?  I’ll ramble about what’s going on studio-wise at the end.

From the 100 Cylinders project:

Phew!  That was a lot of pictures!  Ready for some more?  ^_^

Christmas Gifts – Mugs and Bowls:

My first donut, very difficult to throw:

And finally, commissioned bowls:

I’ve been a pretty busy beaver!  As you can see, I’ve started playing with stamping the clay and making impressions with various tools; I’m also trying to experiment a little with glazes and glazing techniques, making use of slips and underglazes, etc.  You might also be able to tell that I’ve fallen wildly in love with the purple (grape ape) and blue (sea world) glaze combination.  SO MANY of the cylinders are glazed this way!  I also like to think that, looking at these pieces as a whole, there is a decided style developing (though I’m struggling to put a name to it; chunky?  earthy?  something like that…).

I’ve thrown another couple of cylinders, so that I’m at 19.  I am thinking of turning the 100 Cylinders project into the 20 Cylinders project, just because it took me so long to get to 20.  If I stick with the plan to do 100, I’ll be doing this until November for sure.  Though I do seem to find ways to work on other things (like bowls, which I much prefer to throw) in the meanwhile, so I suppose I should stick it out.

More pictures of these pieces will be up on my Flickr page later today, should you want to ogle more pottery porn.  ^.^  (though be advised, these pictures will appear there also, so there will be repeats)

Looking forward, keep an eye out for heart bowls, a return to the white clay body, and a new featured potter article!  Also, more information about La Mano’s spring show (I am still deciding whether or not I want to participate) should be coming soon!  And finally, on April 14th I will be raffling some of my wares (as well as vouchers for commission pieces) at a fundraiser for a friend of a friend who has astronomically high medical bills following a tough surgery.  More info on that, as well!

Until next time, I’m happily yours in mud…

About SacredSpiralPottery

I am a novice potter who was blessedly introduced to clay in January of 2011. I've become totally addicted to mud and all of its amazing properties, and spend a good deal of time working on my own projects and helping out at a small private studio in Jersey City.

  1. These are utterly lovely. I can only imagine how satisfying it must feel to create functional art. Even more, how grounding it must be to work in clay, the stuff of earth itself. As a non-artist I am awed by those who can bring forth something of beauty.

Love, love, love, the new purple/blue glaze!!!!!!!! I see some pretty nice pieces here. Your commission bowls are lovely! Keep up the fabulous work 🙂

    • Isn’t it just amazing? I want to glaze EVERYTHING in this combination. It will probably get old after a while, but… man. So pretty. ^.^ I’m glad you like the bowls – I am amazed that they came out the way they did! Thank you for the lovely comment. ^_^
